Why The Carters Matter

We LOVE us some Beyoncé at Phashion Phish, from back when she was in Destiny's Child and enjoyed "No, No, No"; both the slowed up original with a video featuring Immature, and the Wyclef Jean remix.

So, as fans of her music we're card carrying members of the BeyHive and Beygency. We also LOVE Jay Z and his legacy as the best rapper in Hip Hop and as we've said before; we DO NOT debate this.

So, when these two entertainment juggernauts lived out "first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Beyoncé with the baby carriage", we all smiled. Why? Because Beyoncé who had for years told us to stand up for ourselves as women, make sure we have our own, and don't back down from the strength and independence of being a woman was now, with her blazing attitude of feminism HAVING IT ALL! The one thing many women are afraid of is that as you elevate, you alienate the men around you. Yeah, they may think you're dope, but something about you will make you out of their reach, an unrealistic option, and out of their realm of possibility. So here was a beautiful, successful, independent, and rich woman joining with her equal. It was possible! And it works. You didn't have to settle, there is a man who will appreciate ALL that you bring to the table, and not just some made up lame stuff like a good weave and a nice ass. A man who she called her beloved at the 2014 MTV VMA's and who referred to her as the greatest. This couple who has love, mutual respect, and admiration for each other shows us, that although we may have kissed a couple of frogs, a prince is still out there. One that will let you shine by his side and not behind. Who will lift you up and appreciate all that you are. Even as they are The Carters, they are still Beyonce and Jay Z; neither has appeared to alter who they inherently are to be together. She's still FABULOUS and he's still full of SWAGGER. And that is a beautiful thing. Even as the tabloids attack them and speculate, they have also taught us what an adult, mature relationship can look like even under the microscope of the world. And one thing it does not include is laying it all out for the world to see, especially with suspiciously posted declarations of love on Facebook and Twitter pages. Whatever goes on in their relationship it is their relationship. Rule # 1, don't tell everybody your business.

Yes, The Carters matter for all they bring to us in the entertainment realm, but they also show us that you can be a power individual and a power couple; that makes each other excel. You just have to find the right person to be in the driver's seat with you.

And oh yeah, she shut down the 2014 MTV VMA's and sauntered off like, "y'all can take up the offering for the building fund now". Go Queen Bey!
