We were just touting the AWESOMENESS that is Jidenna; and now we’ve come across even more talent in Ellis Martin with his Jidenna produced single, “You’re Kinda Crazy”.

The Chicago native is giving us the music and with this song in particular, more of what we’ve been yearning for as music fans. We can only take so much ratchet rap; which has its place, but we need a break. It’s nice to listen to music and simply chill in a particular space and moment; and Ellis Martin does that for us.

This song sounds like summer! It also has a retro beat, giving us a very special 50's, with a touch of 80’s vibe. And as a child of the 80’s we LOVE it! After the first listen it was giving us Prince; and you can never go wrong with an artist that reminds you of Prince. We can identify with lyrics like, ". . . just get the fuck away from me", because we've all been there. The song is for sure to be the soundtrack to many memories and just the song to get you through a spring break-up; because cuffin' season is over and it's time to get back out there! On a more springy day in Michigan, we even opted to roll the windows down and blast it! The production calls for it to be played at ignorant levels in the car and at upcoming BBQ's, house parties, and random chill sessions.

We love to look at old pictures and long for the days of Nat King Cole and Duke Ellington, when black men dressed in suits with so much swagger and style it dripped off of them with each step. You know the man with the presence of Cab Calloway and the impeccable elegance that commanded respect. So that is why as soon as we saw Jidenna AND heard his new song “Classic Man” featuring Roman GianArthur we had to number one, pull ourselves together and number two, quickly add it to our music rotation and put it on repeat.

Jidenna is signed to Janelle Monae’s Wondaland Records label. She’s one of our ABSOLUTE FAVORITES by the way. Jidenna's sound is as smooth as the curl that he sports in his red hair and he makes the case for never judging a book by it’s cover. With lyrics like, “You can be mean when you look this clean” and “Now y’all fucking with the wrong mummafucka”, he will clearly style on you and if need be; whoop your ass. Jidenna is something of a hybrid, smooth old school crooner and THEE coolest rapper you wish had an album out right now, because you are going to wear out the new album from Kendrick Lamar soon enough.

We’re hoping this is the start of a resurgence of the cool. THE REAL COOL, not the phonies. We’ve needed this for a while and we’re ready!
