We're Aging Quickly . . . and Not Sure How We Feel About It!

Because we are some ticket purchasing ninjas, we were able to score Saturday tickets for Lollapalooza 2014. This, to any REAL Hip Hop head is the only day that mattered. Why you may ask; because it featured the reunion of Outkast, celebrating their 20th Anniversary and Nas, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Illmatic.

Both sets were amazing! With Nas performing prior to Outkast we staked out our spot early and we were not disappointed!

Nas started off the set with songs from his classic Illmatic, and went through a super charged set that kept the crowd moving the entire time! The audience was there for the classics and he kept them coming, performing "Life's a Bitch",  "It Ain't Hard to Tell", "The World is Yours", "Hate Me Now", and "I Know I Can".

Nas brought about a diverse crowd to his Lollapalooza set. We heard one audience member say they were planning to listen for a bit and move on, but it was too good to move. And we agreed! On his trek to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Illmatic, Nas is giving Hip Hop a lifeline!

And Outkast is helping to revive it too! The crowd in front of the Samsung Stage starting filling in EARLY! Outkast was set to go on at 8:15 PM and the area was pretty much full by 7:30 PM, with an audience that was diverse in not only race, but age! While out touring to celebrate their 20th Anniversary, many people who grew up with Outkast or heard about them later in life knew this was the set to watch! And what we waited for was delivered! ON EVERY LEVEL!

Andre 3000 and Big Boi came out swinging with "B.O.B" and continued on into songs like, "ATLiens", Rosa Parks", "Ms. Jackson", "Crumblin' Erb", "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik". They also took time to perform their solo hits, with Big Boi doing "Kryptonite (I'm On It)" and "GhettoMusik" and Andre 3000 doing "Prototype" and "Hey Ya", with ladies from the audience shaking it like a Polaroid picture!

Outkast showed great chemistry and crowd interaction; with Big Boi keeping check of the crowd by asking them, "Are you having a good time?" and the answer was a resounding YES!

Outkast performed with a full band and was accompanied on a few songs by singer, Sleepy Brown. We also spied ATL's own, the amazing Joi singing backup! The performance also included a VERY COOL laser lightshow and an impromptu fireworks show off in the distance, from another event!

The highlight of the show for us was "So Fresh, So Clean"! One of our favorites and what we believe to be the best ringtone of ALL TIME!

The crowd came to party and vibe and they did it 100%; singing along to every song, and grooving! The audience members young and old knew the songs, and most interestingly, seemed to know how important what they were witnessing was! We hope Outkast will tour more or at least put out a new album, but if they don't we can say we saw them celebrate their 20th, AND it was AWESOME!
